Harris & Harris X Lelièvre Paris

2021

Founded in 1914, Lelièvre Paris; purveyors and craftsmen of the finest quality contemporary fabric and wallpaper, chose to collaborate with furniture and product design studio Harris & Harris, to launch their latest fabrics for 2021.

A number of Harris & Harris furniture pieces were hand-picked by Lelièvre in October 2020 to showcase their new Collection Signature Borealis fabrics.

The classic proportions of the Harris & Harris Totterdown Sofa, proved to be the perfect choice to illustrate the new Altitude fabric; the masterpiece of the Borealis collection, a spectacular tapestry which draws inspiration from a typical Scandinavian scenery. The unique design of the Totterdown sofa enabled the fabric to not only feature on the upholstered seat, back and bolster cushions but also the inner and outer panels of the natural wood frame, acting as a canvas to express the tapestry with an uninterrupted flow.

The Harris & Harris Orchard, a contemporary bench seat, was also selected to exhibit the new Graminae fabric. A soft and radiant all-over print, featuring a simple and graphic pattern of frozen leaves,

The minimal and clean lines of the Totterdown and Orchard provide a generous amount of upholstery to really show off the fabrics whilst the solid wood outlines, frame the motifs and patterns like artwork.

The Harris & Harris furniture will now feature at Lelièvre's Rue du Mail, Paris showroom until Summer 2021.

Harris & Harris X Diespeker & Co

2019

Harris & Harris teamed up with the 138 year old stone experts Diespeker & Co to create a contemporary family of tables.

The tables are available in a wide choice from Diespeker’s range of marble, granite and terrazzo, including bespoke terrazzo produced at the company’s South East London workshop.

Named REVERSIBLE, the coffee table, side table and console family are produced in two contrasting stones which can be flipped over and turned around to reveal a totally new look. This allows the owner to change the feel of their space by simply moving the tables –although some manual help may be required as the tables are particularly sturdy and heavy.

Harris & Harris Creative Director, Alexander Harris says "I was initially inspired by reversible clothing such as ski jackets that allow the user to switch between different looks or colours. I thought it would be interesting to explore how to create the same flexibility in a piece of furniture.”

It was also important for Harris & Harris to consider the sustainable elements of the design, as with all products originating at the studio. Alexander adds "The way the tables are constructed and the materials we’ve used mean these tables will last a lifetime. As for which material customers opt for, we recommend terrazzo for its recycled content to minimise the impact on the environment"

The clean lines of the design and almost limitless combination of stones mean the tables will suit a wide variety of interiors.

Diespeker MD John Krause says “When we first saw Alexander’s designs, we were very impressed and excited; they really do give customers an extra level of flexibility and the option to freshen up an interior simply by turning the furniture around. It’s a real joy to see our materials used so imaginatively; we can’t wait to have some of these tables in our offices.”

Diespeker has previously worked with Harris & Harris providing stone for several projects, and with Alexander when he worked for David Collins Studio. The Harris & Harris studio is based only a mile from Diespeker's workshop. Alexander says"Their proximity is convenient for us; it’s so rare to have the opportunity to visit a manufacturer in London. Normally we have to travel across the UK or to Europe for our projects. The Diespeker team are so helpful and John's enthusiasm for the project has been fantastic. This collaboration fits our ethos of producing in Britain whenever possible."

REVERSIBLE will join the recently launched 'Diespeker Living' brand and e-commerce store and will be added to the Harris & Harris Collection.

Harris & Harris X Heathfield & Co

2017

At the start of 2016, Harris & Harris started to develop a new family of lights for the renowned British lighting brand Heathfield & Co.

Founded in 1977, Heathfield & Co are designers and creators of decorative lighting for beautiful residential interiors and leading commercial projects, based in Tonbridge, Kent.

Harris & Harris worked closely with the team to produce a stunning range of lights, named Azzero, that take inspiration from Art Deco and Pop design, but with a modern twist. The overall feel is refined and chic but at the same time fun and bold.

Azzero was given a sneak preview at Heathfield's exhibition stand at Decorex 2016 before being given a full launch at the Harris & Harris stand during Designjunction 2017.

Alexander Harris discusses using terrazzo for the bases of the lights "We have seen the material used widely for interiors in Miami, where we have been working on an interior design project, we found it to be very striking. It has a great heritage having been used for thousands of years and there are so many possible colour combinations with the base material against the aggregate. There is also the opportunity to use recycled glass and scrap marble chips which can make the material a more sustainable choice."

"Although Terrazzo is seen in flooring and work tops it is rare to see the material used for a product in this way. The use of brass is timeless and the stunning 'capsule' light diffusers look dramatic when illuminated with the warm LEDS within. The design language is carried through each type of lamp and can work well when continuity is required but the individual designs can also stand alone confidently."

Fast forward 3 years and the Azzero range has proven to be a best seller for Heathfield & Co and Harris & Harris. The lights can now be found in residential and hospitality projects around the world and for 2020 the team added new additions to the family including 2 redesigned wall lights, pendant light and a smaller version of the ever popular table light.
