MATERIALS & FINISHES
We have curated a selection of exceptional materials and finishes to produce the Harris
&
Harris Product Collection. Almost all of our materials are natural and minimise the impact on the environment wherever possible. We work on a COM basis for all of our upholstery, but can recommend specific fabrics when required. We are also able to work with our suppliers and workshops to provide bespoke finishes and other materials to suit specific interior schemes
TIMBERS
We predominately work with timber because it is natural, renewable, tactile and honest. Our workshops source all of our timber from sustainably managed FSC or PEFC certified forests
METALS
We construct a small number of our products from hardwearing and durable steel, aluminium and brass. Where paint is required we use powder coating for its resilience and low pollutant levels compared with solvent-based wet paint
GLASS
We use glass for a number of shades in our lighting ranges in place of acrylic which contains harmful chemicals and cannot be easily recycled. We also work with Magna to specify their 'Glaskeramik' material for many of our table tops, which is produced from 100% recycled waste glass and is Cradle to Cradle Gold certified
STONE & CERAMICS
We utilise stone, clay and terracotta on many of our products. These natural materials have a very low embodied energy (the total energy within the material from extraction to finished product) and are therefore have a low impact on the environment as well as being hard wearing and tactile
OTHER MATERIALS
Many of the other materials and finishes in our collection are chosen for their natural and sustainable credentials and we are keen to explore more environmentally friendly options to be used in our products in the future
LEATHERS
We work with UK based Alma Leather to utilise their Green range for the leather components of our products. Their natural cow hide leather uses a sustainable 100% vegetable tan finish. The natural tanning agents can be reused during the processing of the leather and does not harm the environment through toxic water pollution like traditional chromium tanning does. We will be introducing a vegan option as an alternative to our current leather selection very soon
